犀川の中流にある「大桑貝殻橋（おんまかいがらばし）」の河原は、「大桑層」（おんまそう）という地層が綺麗に露出してる地質学的に重要な意味を持っている場所で世界的にも珍しい所のようだ。
その、大桑層の特徴として貝の化石が大量に地層に埋まってる事で有名な場所で、釣り人達も多く訪れる犀川のポイントのひとつ。
River beach of “Onmakaigarabasi” in the middle of Saigawa seems to be a rare place in the world with geologically important meaning that the stratum called “Onma layer” is beautifully exposed.
It is famous for its large amount of fossil shellfish buried in the stratum as a feature of the Onma layer, and one of the points of Saigawa where many fishing people visit.

とても化石が多すぎて、化石発掘みたいな感じではないんですが
大昔、この場所が海だったんだなぁと感じさせてくれるだけの貝の化石の多さはあります。
There are so many fossils that it is not like a fossil excavation, but there are so many shellfish fossils that make us feel like this place was the sea long ago.

砂が固まった様な岩群は、甌穴と呼ばれる自然が作り出した穴が無数に空いていて
岩肌も綺麗な曲線に窪んで、そこに水が溜まって、
普段見慣れてないからなのか
何かの形にみえたり、ムンクの絵画にも見えたり、エッシャーの版画に見えたり、
個人的には面白い空間でした。

川の流れが早いのか、草たちは川の流れに沿って
ほとんど真横に倒されているんだけど
根っこがしっかり地面を掴んでるのを見ると
生命の力強さを感じたり、、、

そんな、ちょっとした非日常を感じられるスポットです。
場所は犀川の大桑地区、山側環状線の大桑で下りて川沿いの上流を目指して行けば、割とすぐの所にあります。
山側環状線を通ると見える場所なので、気になっている人もいるのでは？
僕は気になってました。笑
化石が好きな人には、オススメです。
